STEEL CAPITAL EQUIPMENT PROCESS SIMULATION MODELING

The Problem

An engineering design and build firm serving the steel industry was competing for a quench system for a rail mill client. They were confident in their design, but wanted assurance that their solution would not cause collisions in the system. The system design validation is a critical step to selling their solution to the client and minimizes the risk of an expensive and embarrassing system failure upon commissioning.

Our Approach

APO took their engineering study and equipment specifications and constructed a process simulation model using Arena. The model revealed that system as-designed would not function as desired.

The Results

APO offered a redesign based on the model outcome that would meet the performance specifications and still fit in the footprint of the location. Additionally, APO provided our client with an animated movie of the simulated system in action, allowing the client an advantage when selling to their end user. After this initial success, APO continues to be a support resource behind the scenes for simulation Modeling for the client.
